The Virgin Mary Appears (again) in a Tree in Ireland

The Virgin Mary has made another appearance. Thanks be to Orac for the tip.

Before she made a bird poop on a car, she visited a tree in Ireland. Personally, I find the rosary someone placed around “her neck” a little disturbing.

“It’s doing no harm and it’s bringing people together from young and old to black and white, Protestant and Catholic, to say a few prayers, so what’s wrong with that? There’s enough violence and intolerance going on in the world,” he [a local shopkeeper] said.

What’s wrong with that.

Yes, there is enough violence and intolerance in the world, but superstition is not the answer and a local parish priest AGREES:

Local parish priest Fr Willie Russell said on radio station Limerick Live 95FM yesterday that people should not worship the tree. “There’s nothing there . . . it’s just a tree . . . you can’t worship a tree.”

A spokesman for the Limerick diocesan office said the “church’s response to phenomena of this type is one of great scepticism”.

“While we do not wish in any way to detract from devotion to Our Lady, we would also wish to avoid anything which might lead to superstition,” he said.

I would point out the irony in his last sentence, but… Oh, I guess I did. No offense to my catholic friends and family intended!

Of course, that doesn’t mean we cannot marvel at the beauty of what happens when the human brain meets coincidence.
