Propaganda That KILLS

Posted June 29, 2009

No more BS!

No more BS!

A fellow anti-anti-vaccination proponent shared this YouTube video this morning. I am disgusted and enraged, and you should be, too.

It is a trailer for a film being sold, obviously, as a promotional tool for a group claiming to cure autism. However, they do so by blaming its onset on vaccinations. It is pure propaganda.

I have posted many times on this subject, so it will come as no surprise that I find this kind of scaremongering akin to murder.

I will refrain from criticizing, in detail, the content of the trailer except to say that, as is typical of propaganda of this sort, NOTHING in it related to the cause of autism and/or vaccinations is true. The epidemic of autism we are experiencing is tragic, but research has shown us conclusively that autism is NOT a result of either mercury poisoning or vaccination exposure. Suggesting that it is has caused a dramatic drop in vaccination rates, which renders vaccines powerless to stop disease.

The comments about low productivity of those with autism and ADHD are insulting and discussing these completely different disorders together, implying they have a common environmental cause is utter BS.

Just how stupid do we think you are, Carrey?

VERY, VERY stupid.

You continue to put others at risk because you are an arrogant SOB. You’ve been educated repeatedly by scientists who actually have the education and expertise to do so, yet you continue to cling to your unfounded, untenable, repeatedly debunked claims — claims which, when acted upon by others, kill people. THAT is stupid.

Start listening to scientists, accept the truth, stop blaming vaccines, and start working toward solutions to the problem.

Please go to YouTube and rate this video with one star. Spread the word.

Having had my share of arguments with cranks, I can’t say I blame them.

Drescher here…
I have deleted Mr. Abshear’s comment and left the link, which is usually the opposite of what I do, so it requires some explanation.
Although the comment was not offensive and his link does not appear to promote woo, it was several paragraphs of irrelevant information about autism. It was obviously just promotion for the Autism Society website and completely inappropriate when a simple statement and link would do. Frankly, I do not like my blog hijacked to sell anything, non-profit or not. If I want to write about autism in general, I will certainly do so; if you feel the need to spread the word yourself, get your own blog, dude.
That said, autism is serious business. I left the link (and the comment author’s name) for readers who want to learn more about it. I am sure that everything he had to say here can be found there.
