Something Stupid I Heard Today…
Posted July 6, 2009
Okay, it wasn’t today, but I’ve been busy!
Last week my kids and I went to a local water park with a visiting family member. As I was sitting in the shade at 4:05 in the afternoon, I overheard a father and grandmother in the “cabana” next to ours discussing whether one of the kids needed sunscreen. The father said:
The sun won’t burn you. That’s between 10 and 4 – that’s when the sun burns you – 10 to 4!
Apparently, the sun knows exactly what time it is and turns off its “burn ray” at 4 pm. If it was 10 minutes earlier, that kid would be subjected to a slathering of zinc oxide, but it was after 4 pm.
NOTE: It is true that mid-day is the worst time to be in the sun because more of the sun’s rays reach your spot on the earth when the sun is highest in the sky, but I don’t think the sun knows what time it is, do you?
