You? Nah. It's funny, though, that there were a few people who worried about it. One woman was a little panicked about one of her kids. In general, narcissists are not bothered by their own narcissism. It's the people around them who suffer, so most of the books on the topic are about dealing with narcissists, not narcissism. Unfortunately, it's a personality trait, so it's not something that is likely to change.

You could be high in self-esteem, but that doesn't equate to narcissism. The major difference is in how you regard others. Narcissists have either an average or below average regard for others. People high in narcissism usually have little or no empathy.

"The Narcissism Epidemic" has some suggestions, but not many. They focused on culture and weren't very optimistic. Most of the books that offer solutions are pop-psych self-help BS. The best I could do is talk about how to avoid raising a narcissist in a narcissistic culture. I'll try to get a post out soon on that.

I wish I could have been there. Your talk sounds fascinating. After reading your list of narcissism traits, I am now paranoid that I may be narcissistic (it could just be that I'm American, though, hard to tell). Can you recommend any books on how to stop being such a self-centred jerk? Most books on the topic seem to be about how to deal with other people who are narcissistic, which seems to presume that narcissists are incurable. Jeez, where are the books for me, me, MEEEE??

I tried the musk sticks at TAM9, and I actually like them! I speculated with a very tired/jet-lagged Dr. Raichie that there may be differences in taste sensitivities, since I am among the population that can only taste soap when eating cilantro (yuck!).

By the way, I am the "Chris" that plopped down next to you and Colin at the Del Mar announcing that I don't know any of you! And then got to hear interesting stories from your husband. Great fun!
